This trek is considered by National Geographic one of the most popular and famous hikes of the 25 best hikes in the world. It connects you with the Magic City of Machupicchu It allows you to see Apu Salkantay (6,271 m) from really close by, impressing views of Andean nature and an exuberant tropical jungle surrounded by several fruits like passion fruit, avocados, custard apple, jungle tomatoes and infallable organic coffee to enjoy.
We leave Cusco very early by private transport heading for Mollepata and Soraypampa, where we will have breakfast and at the same time, meet with our team of porters. Then, we will start our hike on a path leading uphill, accompanied by our experienced guide and a porter with an emergency horse that can be helpful, should there occur any mishaps during the trajectory. We continue until we arrive at our camp Soray Pampa, where our Chef will offer us an delicious picknick lunch. After a little rest, we will continue our hike ascending to the beautiful turqois lake of Umantay. After our visit we will return to our camp. You may bring personal belongings weighing up to 7 – 8 kg.
An Andean sunrise with a view to Apu Umantay and Apu Salkantay. Then, after a nice breakfast we start our hike to the highest point, the Salkantay pass (4629 m), from where you can see the engmatic Salkantay Mountain, and have a view at the chain of mountains surrounding it. We’re descending to Huayraqmachay, where our chef has prepared us a wonderful picknick lunch, and then we continue to our camp in Challhuay, where we will spend the night in tents.
Descending to the tropical forest. After breakfast, we have to say goodbye to our team of horseman, who were a great help in facilitating our hike. Today, our walk starts with an easy descent. We will be surrounded by ambush, bamboo, orchids and fruits, and will be accompanied by the river until we arrive at the Homestay of Playa Sahuayaco, where our Chef awaits us with a delicious picknick lunch. We may take a nap before we resume our walk to the organic coffee route (plantation), where a specialist will explain to us the various types of coffee they cultivate in the area, and the whole process of coffee production. After the presentation, we may participate in hand brewed coffee tasting and enjoy a cup of delicious organic coffee. Dinner and lodging at the Homestay family.
After breakfast, we say goodbye to our Homestay family and start our hike very early today, so we can enjoy dawn in the tropical jungle until after a climb, we reach the archeological site of Llaqtapata. After our visit, we continue with a descent to Hydroelectrica and we will have lunch there, prepared by our Chef. As it is the last time we see him during this hike, we will say goodbye to our Chef and take the train to Aguas Calientes, where we will spend the night in a hotel.
We have o leave the hotel very early in the morning to take the bus to the Magical City of the Incas, which is considered a jewel of Inca architecture with agricultural terraces, neighbourhoods, squares, streets, an astronomic observatory etc. Constructed upon the slopes of the mountain, in the middle of nature, it is considered one of the miracles of today’s world. UNESCO has also recognized it as a part of our common Natural and Cultural Heritage, as it was an important religious, political and administrative center in the epoch of the Inca. The altitude is about 2,450 m. After exploring this Magical City, you may like to explore the mountain of Huayna Picchu. From the top of this mountain you can enjoy an impressing overview of the entire City of Machupicchu. It is advised to make reservations months in advance, so please do not hesitate to contact us, if you like to include Huaynapicchu. We will return to Aguas Calientes to take the train back to Poroy, where our driver is waiting to take us back to the hotel in Cusco.
