Ausangate Trek gives opportunity to visit typical sites of the Andes with a spectacular panoramic view of nature. Around Apu Ausangate you may enjoy snow covered mountain tops, lakes and the Rainbow Mountain, which is a natural erosive formation that was formed millions of years ago.
It meets with the Vilcanota chain (Andes, above 5,200 m) with its flocks of lamas, alpacas, and sheep passing by. You may also enjoy the jungle wildlife with its wild vicunas, the Andean heron, condor, fox, vizcachas etc. And the typical jungle flora if only the Andean grass (ichu) and several medicinal plants. Finally, to pass the night in a tent camp, is a unique experience with a sky that allows you a fantastic view of stellar constellations in the middle of the mountains.
From Cusco, we leave very early by private transport until we reach the village of Tinki. There, we will meet our team of carriers who are in charge of bringing everyone’s personal belongings, around 10 kg per person, as well as all the hiking materials, such as tents, food supply and a medical kit. In case of emergency, we can also count on a horse that will stay with our group. On our road we will see rustique stone houses with typical Andean thatched roofs; people wearing colorful traditional clothes, as well as unique panoramic views of the area. We will have a pick nick lunch, prepared by our chef cook, on our way, after which we will continue until we arrive at the Upis camp, where we will spend the night. If you like, you may opt for visiting the thermal baths.
Day 1 includes:
After a good breakfast, prepared by our chef, we begin the climb up the Arapa pass (4,800 m). On our way, we will come across small lakes, waterfalls and mountain tops belonging to the Vilcanota chain of mountains. There, we will arrive at the Pucacocha camp (4,585 m), where we will spend the night at the Red Lake, which is -as the name does suspect – a red colored lake at the feet of Apu Ausangate.
Day 2 includes:
A magnificent day for enjoying Apu Ausangate, the highest mountain of Cusco. We begin our climb until we reach the mountain top from where we have the closest view of Apu Ausangate, mountains, natural passages, vicuñas, flocks of alpacas and lamas. There, we will have our pick nick lunch, prepared by our chef, and continue our walk until we arrive at our camp, where we will spend the night in tents, very close to the Rainbow Mountain.
Day 3 includes:
A wonderful day on which we may enjoy natural sites, geological formations of the Vilcanota chain (Andes) and a chain of naturally colored mountains. The Cordillera of the Andes are formed by frictions of tectonic plates that have caused a natural erosion since millions of years. When we arrive at the highest point, we will be able to see the natural formation of colors and the entire red valley of mountains. There, we will continue our way to the Valley of Chillca, where our track ends, and we will say goodbye to our team of carriers, thanks to whom we were able to have this beautiful track.
