Itinerary

DAY 1 VISIT OF THE 4 RUINS ON HORSEBACK

Today you will discover the most important archaeological Inca sites in the surroundings of Cusco on horseback. In the morning you are transferred to Kenko, where your horseback ride begins. You start riding towards Tambomachay, which was formerly one of the most sacred places of the Inca Empire, where ritual ablutions took place. Your next stop is Puka Pukara, an ancient fort, from where the Inca guarded the entrance into the capital.

Thanks to its location you have a splendid view of the valley and the nearby summits. Afterwards you return to Kenko, an important sanctuary that counts many altars, which were used to sacrifice llamas and alpacas in the Inca period. Here you will finish your horseback riding trip and continue the excursion by foot until you reach Saqsayhuamán, a stunning fortress built on a hill over the city of Cusco. This site is characterized by its gigantic blocks of stone, accurately interlocked, with some being over 9 meters tall and weighing more than 550 tons.

After visiting this site, you walk back to Cusco using a path which leads downwards to the city centre. In the afternoon and evening you have the opportunity to discover the historic centre of the former Inca capital on your own.
